Before calling The Westhill my home, I lived in a condo in downtown Kitchener. I was starting to feel unwell physically and I was diagnosed with a lung infection that really affected my appetite. My best friend suggested it was time to consider a residence that had meals, cleaning, activities and entertainment for me to enjoy.
I visited five other residences during my search, researching online as well as driving past The Westhill several times. The presence and architecture of the building was a draw, as well as the proximity to the boardwalk – a great location!
The most important thing was everyone was smiling; it was an amazing welcoming feeling! My advice to others searching for a retirement option is to do your homework and visit a number of places. And when it’s time to pack up, you have to tell yourself that you’ve got to get rid of stuff. I recommend that people in their 60’s to 70’s should start decluttering now so the transition to a smaller space is easier. I had a moving company assist with my move and organized my belongings ahead of time - do it when you can, not when you have to! Without question, I would recommend The Westhill to others. It’s a great place to live and my transition was so easy.
One of my favourite activities at The Westhill are brain games, they keep your mind sharp and challenged. There is always so much going on here, it’s sort of like living on a cruise ship! Bank runs and board walk loops are so convenient and the staff feels like family!
